Review of The Great Yokai War (2005) by Alyssa N — 03 Jan 2008
This is a family-oriented fantasy film from Takashi Miike (yep, you read that correctly). But Miike hasn't lost his edge, and his penchant for the quirky and bizarre is still very evident here in both the characters and story.
This creates an imaginative quality that so many children's movies today lack, but at the same time, this movie's not afraid to have its ten-year-old protagonist tackle some more serious issues.
It may drag a bit, and some of the humor falls flat (literally), but this is still an epic adventure worth taking.
