Review of The Great Wall (2016) by Brendan N — 19 Feb 2017
This film divided me upon the quick anti climatic conclusion, this film took a fun idea and really ran with it, but the execution literally runs out midway through. Matt Damon is solid along with recognisable Asian stars and director but the film fails to deliver in the end.
The film throws you head first into the concept and mythology, this works really well and you are provided an epic battle that sets the story. After a while though the film veers off and never returns, the story heads off in a direction that otherwise didn't need to be there.
The meh ending is just in line with the misdirection the story took and it just leaves a bad conclusion to what originally was just a fun film. Hopefully the next clash of cultures will have more success because this director really lost his edge here.
