Review of The Great Wall (2016) by Late R — 17 Dec 2017
Yimou Zhang has made some stuff that I've really enjoyed in the past and the premise to 'The Great Wall' sounded just ridiculous enough that it could have been enjoyably fun, but what can I say about it other than it's atrociously bad.
Horribly cast, horribly written and horribly executed, I honestly don't know what they could have been thinking. It's not only about as generic and cheesy as you can get, but there's also an absurd amount of things that make no sense at all -- too many to list.
At the very least you'd hope for some wicked action sequences, but they're not particularly exciting, either. The only thing that is a plus point is the visuals (not including the CGI which is so-so, at best) that hints at Zhang's flair.
