Review of The Great Silence (1968) by Kevin M — 21 Jul 2007
Director of "Navajo Joe" and "Django" makes a surprisingly mature turn in this bleakest of Spaghetti Westerns, set in a snowbound Utah town menaced by Klaus Kinski's band of bounty hunters.
Along comes a mute gunslinger who blasts off the thumbs of his opponents. The stage is set for a dramatic finale, and when it comes it hits you like an icicle to the heart. Stunning.
