Review of The Great Raid (2005) by Bryan M — 29 May 2006
I hate giving this movie a lower rating than a 10 just because of the story behind it. The story in the movie is absolutely true because I watched a documentary on the Cabantauan Raid on the History Channel. The movie does a good job of reviving the historical raid to the big screen. However, the movie was somewhat disappointing before the actual "raid" part of the movie begins. The movie tries to connect you with the characters which I never really made a connection with. It just drags on and on untill the battle sequence. Once it got to the climactic battle sequence of the movie however, it was interesting to watch all the events of the raid unfold.
I was not as emotially distraught as the movie probably intended people to be but it did give me a time to reflect on the events of the raid. I give it a 6 out of 10 because of the dragging in the first half of the movie. It still deserves to be fresh because of its historical value.
