Review of The Great Race (1965) by Michael M — 22 Jun 2007
My older sister switched me on to this flick years ago. There is so much I love about this movie. I like the racing around the world premise. The acting is dynamite. Tony Curtis impressed me in this one more than some of his other flicks and Jack Lemmon totally shines as Professor Fate.
I also totally dig the melodrama style. If this were being acted on stage there would be audience cues to hiss everytime Lemmon hit the stage. To add to the melodrama style Prof. Fate, the Great Leslie, and Natalie Wood as the love interest might as well all be Dudley-Do-Right, Nell, and Snidley Whiplash.
Its campy, its fun. If you haven't seen it, this one ought to be a treat!
