Review of The Great Race (1965) by Jakki J — 11 Feb 2010
Only one word to describe Jack Lemmon...BRILLIANT! Lemmon certainly steals the show as a typical early 20th century, mustachio villain and I am reminded once again why he continues to be one of my all-time favorites.
I absolutely adored the overall campiness of the film. Some of the best imagery for its time, it seemed almost cartoonish. Natalie Wood was also a great lead. She was comical, wily and beautiful! Tony Curtis, while the star, was given the least amount of good material but absolutely fit the role.
Just an overall fun movie with great chemistry among the entire cast. My only real complaint about the movie is that it seemed to run a bit long and consequently lulled in parts.
