Review of The Great Race (1965) by Todd L — 05 Dec 2010
Blake Edwards' homage to slapstick cinema of the past is overblown to say the least, but that doesn't mean it's not fun. The first half, before the intermission, is much stronger than the second which gets bogged down in a silly subplot involving Lemmon's character being a goofy prince's double.
Only the pie fight (possibly the greatest in cinema history) saves the second half of the film.
