Review of The Great Race (1965) by John A — 09 Oct 2010
A silly Blake Edwards comedy that's too long for its own good, but that manages to maintain its sense of good will through the standout performance of Jack Lemmon and a series of funny gags. Lemmon is in fine form here, mugging for the camera, yes, but ever so interesting to watch.
The pie fight was quite good, as was everything about Lemmon's dual role and the Siberian interlude. Everything else is window dressing (very nice in the case of Wood), but a film this long needs more pop throughout.
