Review of The Great Outdoors (1988) by Shawn P — 15 Oct 2007
Harrowing, coming-of-age, teen-angst, sports-action-adventure-food-chase-thriller-comedy drama road-movie. John Hughes again comes up trumps, making you want a loving family in America. The pairing of Ackroyd and Candy is perfect and the tension makes great comedy.
The son's pubic romance is beautifully played and scored. The finale, however, will have adults crying in shock, before supplying them with 10 spoonfuls of schlock. Unmissable.
