Review of The Great Outdoors (1988) by Bruce R — 16 Jul 2010
Not a great use of these two great actors, but it has it's great moments, "There's nothing left except the fat and grissel." Although I do feel they captured the "great american campout" How they are really going to a summer rental cabin and not really going into the great outdoors.
This movie suffers from trying to do for this classic american family vacation what National Lampoon's Vacation did for the family cross country trip. It was even written by John Hughes who had wrote VACTION.
It's a good movie if it is the summer time and you are on one of these vacations or are stuck inside on a rainy day. And Akroyd and Candy are a great combo in this. Worth seeing if only once.
