Review of The Great Northfield Minnesota Raid (1972) by Patrick C — 20 Jan 2009
Not being a huge fan of psychadelic westerns in the vein of "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" and the "Life and Times of Roy Bean" this movie was nothing short of annoying. Duvall overacts his way through everything and the director is wedded to showing banal closeups of everyone but the horses.
There are much better films that address the death of the old west and the beginnings of the modern age, like "The Ballad of Cable Hogue" and the best of them all, "The Wild Bunch".
This film is mostly poor imitation.
