Review of The Great New Wonderful (2005) by Vania P — 08 Aug 2007
A very subtly moving drama with its comedic moments, The Great New Wonderful shows the everyday tensions in a post 9/11 world in a more understated way. There are some great performances, especially from Tony Shalhoub, Jim Gaffigan, and Judy Greer.
The only problem with this movie is they never completely connect each person's story, so the film ends up being a scattered arrangement of lives. They also leave some conflicts open ended and unexplained, which proves frustrating when they try to have an eye-opening ending without allowing for the full effect.
Overall, the movie is worth watching for the intriguing characters of the select few, but other than that, this film doesn't live up to what it strives to be.
