Review of The Great Mouse Detective (1986) by Bryan K — 01 Feb 2011
This movie I hadn't seen until 2010. I'm so glad I got the chance. For everyone saying it's underrated, it is DEFINITELY underrated. This movie saved Disney and got them into the groove that we so know and love.
The characters are full of life--I don't think there was a character that I didn't like in some way. Basil is full of energy, crazy emotional swings, determination and vigour. Ratigan is suave, humorous and witty, and frightening, sometimes haunting with his jovial manner.I LOVE his voice and Basil's. Definitely handsome voices lending excellently to the characters' personalities. And these two get in each other's faces like nobody's business!
Olivia is a sweet girl, and I rarely say that about little girls in movies! She definitely tugged my heart strings at the right times. Oh, and Fidget...I could go on, but the characters AND the music AND the creatively modified Sherlock plot is so worth the buy.
Why didn't I buy the DVD for myself? XD I think I WILL!
