Like most of Disney's animated movies, "The Great Mouse Detective" is short and extremely watchable, and its colorful animation and enjoyable, albeit predictable story line show the inventiveness of Disney's animation department.
What makes "The Great Mouse Detective" such an ingenious little film is how it parallels the adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson with similar, miniature duo of mouse detectives that have investigative adventures of their own - most of which reference the famed literature hero numerous times.
