Review of The Great Gatsby (2013) by Kim P — 05 Apr 2014
The reviews slated this film, calling it 'style over substance' but they have been way to harsh. Of course Luhrmann favours style and the film looks absolutely beautiful but he has not sacrificed the literary source and the script is very strong.
The actors are also giving their all and, unlike 'Moulon Rouge' are not consumed by Luhrmann's directing style. DiCaprio in particular is excellent in the title role and I can now see him finally as an adult performer with this role.
Some might find the film plot-less and dull but that can not be blamed on the director. He's found a stunning way to bring a literary classic to life for the 21st Century!
