Review of The Great Gatsby (2013) by Christian John V — 21 May 2014
A colossally misconceived project. As an adaptation of Fitzgerald's novel, it's awful. The movie revels in everything the book condemns, exhibiting no awareness of the complete clash of style and content.
Taken on it's own terms, it fails. It substitutes visual overload for visual spectacle. It chucks more and more at the screen with no overarching purpose.
