Review of The Great Gatsby (2013) by Carlos G — 26 Jul 2014
This is a movie I am very conflicted about. For starters I absolutely hate the beginning of the movie. It felt like it was trying to be WAY too cool with its rap songs merged with 1920s for some reason.
It was very hard to sit through. However, once DiCaprio hit the screen everything I thought about the movie changed. His acting was great, his chemistry with Maguire was entertaining, and it seemed like everyone's acting stepped up with his presence.
It turned a weird and bad movie into a incredibly fun ride with fantastic visuals to boost. I need to give props to the set designer since everything looked so detailed and colorful. There is plenty of that Baz Luhrmann flare in this movie, as in once your done with this movie, you will have had no idea what the heck you just watched.
Take that as you will, but this Gatsby remake certainly had me entertained. You had me at "Gatsby".
