Review of The Great Gatsby (2013) by J-Hound R — 02 Jan 2015
The Great Gatsby is a visually exotic film that enters and exists the realm of reality and leaves you thinking at the end. Leo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire and the rest of the cast were top notch.
I will admit that I never read the book so I may have a different view on this film then others who have. I will say that the director Buz Luhrman did a fantastic job making this film visually stand out. The colors and the scenery were outstanding. It made me feel like yes they were in New York City but they were also in a place that I could never go. The film borders fantasy and reality in a way that I have not experienced in a very long time. The story was fascinating but there were a few scenes I would have admitted just for the sake of time. Overall I enjoyed watching this film and thought it was very unique. I would recommend this movie to anyone who enjoyed Luhrmann's previous films or anyone who enjoys a film that isn't your typical run of the mill film.
