Review of The Great Gatsby (2013) by Scott W — 13 Jun 2015
I went into this with pretty low expectations, thinking it was going to be a train wreck. But it was ok. It didn't deviate from the book as much as I expected it to. There were some parts that were pretty ridiculous and I thought slowed down the movie a lot, especially toward the middle.
But it picks up in the last third and is pretty compelling. Of course most of the credit for that goes to the wonderful source material Baz Luhrmann has to work with. I will say this is one of the most colorful movies I've seen.
There is plenty to look at. My one gripe in terms of the characters is I feel like Carey Mulligan isn't quite right as Daisy Buchanan. I never really got the sense of what makes Daisy special from her portrayal.
