Review of The Great Gatsby (2013) by Marilee A — 21 Sep 2015
I still prefer the Robert Redford, Mia Farrow version, it's simply one of the most elegant films ever. Although Leonardo DiCaprio makes a wonderful Gatsby, Carrey Mulligan does not embody Daisy as Mia Farrow did.
This film has some exquisite moments too , it's a bit darker , and captures the debauchery of the Roaring Twenties. I came into it with a prejudice against it, as the 1st Great Gatsby is one of my all time favorite films, this one won me over, and my resentment of " how dare they remake such a perfect film" melted away.
Now I love both versions for different reasons, and encourage F.Scott Fitzgerald fans to see both. I keep both in my heart, mind, and collection.
