Review of The Great Gatsby (2013) by Matthew H — 18 Aug 2015
The film is cast to perfection, Di Caprio is a 'great' Gatsby and Tobey Maguire performs well as Nick, which was a surprise to me as I am not overly fond of him. However, I believe the film falls short due to Baz Luhrmann's direction.
His unwillingness to linger on scene for no more than five seconds is, if anything, distracting for the viewer who can't really get a firm grip on what is going on. If you manage to get past that though the film serves as a fairly good adaptation of F.
Scott Fitzgerald's novel.
