Review of The Great Gatsby (2013) by Naiya G — 24 Apr 2016
The Gatsby was great, but Gatsby's experience was also a disaster. Gatsby turned himself to be one of the richest guy from the poor where he was born from, achieving the American Dream in 1920s. So Gatsby was great. The movie also indicates that money, wealth, reputation were the first symbols of one person, representing everything.
The story took place in West Egg and East Egg (New York City). Nick Carraway was.
The narrator of the story that was told at the third man's view showing Gatsby's life. Gatsby was such a rich and wealthy guy living in the West Egg, having parties in his house that lots of people came to his house without invitations. There is a scene that he had a party.
In his house with the sense of luxury, brightness, with the loud music, the people were standing by the bar; even some men dived in the swimming pool; girls were weaving and dancing; some people just came in the middle of the party, driving crazily towards the shining house; many people came to the party without invitations. With the scene of the Gatsby came to the center of the party, it was indicated that he was the Jay Gatsby that everyone in the party saw the real person with the wealth. The next day, Nick introduced Gatsby to Daisy to let them reunite in the tea time. Daisy wanted to tell Tom about her relationship with Daisy that she was still loving Gatsby. Gatsby knows Daisy loves himself. However Daisy said to Gatsby that she loved both Tom and Gatsby; her response made gatsby really angry. At the way back home, while Daisy was driving, she saw Myrtle Wilson who was recognized as the Tom's girlfriend, she drove Gatsby's car, rushing to the her, then she ran away. Gatsby wanted to admit that he himself made the accident, taking away from Daisy. Tom told George Wilson, the wife of Myrtle Wilson that Gatsby made his wife dead. At the last, when Gatsby was standing by the swimming pool in the morning, George Wilson came in quietly. With a gunshot from the back, Gatsby laid down in the pool with blood. George killed himself with the gun.
In the book, the book said there were people around everywhere in the garden; the loud music was being played; the lights were shining everywhere in his yard, some crazy men were diving in the pool; some confident girls were dancing and weaving; there were still some folks coming whom they had not got invitations. In the movie, the scene with the crazy people, what the people doing and the music, and the scene were all covered in the movie.
Actually, I think it was a good movie. First, the details of the party were seen in the movie. Second, from the original story, the information was covered. But the story was a dark and pessimistic story. Everyone had a purposeless life but caring just wealth, reputation. Like Gatsby, he left his parents early, belittling them by heart, with the faith of money and wealth. However, he died for it.
