Review of The Great Gatsby (1974) by Terhi T — 06 Apr 2010
This film comes off as very pleasant. The costumes are well done, the art design is exquisite, and the cinematography is a pleasure to behold. I think the main fault of this film is that it is too pleasant, and as such is unable to capture the feel of the novel.
Only Bruce Dern, as Tom Buchanan, is able to conjure up the underlying anger that was present in the book. However, even though the film is a failure in that sense, I certainly enjoyed it.
