Review of The Great Escape (1963) by Nikki M — 02 Jan 2009
I somehow had never seen this film, and I am now 23. So I finally got around to seeing it, and probably after some of the spoofs of it, I was slightly disappointed. The bike chases and stunts weren't as good as I thought they would be, the one general guy who took charge came across as a slimey person (probably excellent acting then!), and I know it is based on a true story, but I thought it would be more motivational and inspirational - the great escape conjures up images of success and everything working out, not most of the men being gunned down, and the rest being returned to the POW.
Oh well, that is real life for you.
