Review of The Great Escape (1963) by Michael T — 23 Jan 2009
Steve McQueen was born to play Hicks, the "Cooler King." But McQueen is just one member of an all-star cast of American and British film actors that included future director Richard Attenborough, James Garner, James Donald, Charles Bronson and others.
The story is based on real-life events. McQueen had found and purchased the vintage German WWII motorcycle used in the film. He had the bike rebuilt and did a lot of his own stunt driving.
