Review of The Great Escape (1963) by Jack Y — 01 Jan 2010
Was it really nearly three hours long? Moves along beautifully, with never a dull moment. A great movie about camaraderie and invention, with plenty of tense scenes and enough action to keep modern audiences’ attention.
McQueen does steal the movie, even if he was an ass to work with and preferred riding his bike, but the rest of the cast is solid: Dickie, Jim Garner, Gordon Jackson, Donald Pleasence and McCallum give excellent performances.
Deserves the iconic status that history has given it.
