Review of The Great Escape (1963) by Irvin C — 07 Aug 2010
This is one of those why-haven't-I-seen-this-before movies (especially since I was already quite familiar with the great Elmer Bernstein score). Even though Steve McQueen is top-billed, it's really an ensemble piece with every performer nailing their respective parts.
Based on a true story, this film combines adventure, humor and drama seamlessly. Though the film is nearly three hours long, I didn't feel it and wanted more.
