Review of The Great Escape (1963) by Adrian B — 04 Jan 2011
"The Great Escape" is a real dissapointment of a film. It is generally an unsatisfying film of a bunch of soldiers WWII soldiers from the Allied nations who try to escape a prison in Germany.
The film is overwhelmingly too long and the character development, mentioned by New York Times critic Bosley Crowther, is really dissapointing. They are so paper-thin. If the story involved the main characters backgrounds being described of how they were initially captured or what they left back in their home countries, that would have made the story a lot more entertaining interesting, but no they didn't.
In addition, the ending the really annoyed me, but I can't give that away for obvious reasons. The only aspects of the film that were interesting were the tunnel used for the escape and the colour, which slightly redeemed the entirity of the film.
I was not too impressed by this 1963 feature.
