Review of The Great Escape (1963) by Tristan M — 04 Apr 2015
If this movie doesn't put a smile on your face, nothing will. It has so much youthful energy at times you forget you're watching a war movie and you think you're watching a group of schoolboys plotting a way to get out of detention.
And McQueen is definitely the class clown. Following the escape plan and the contagious personalities gives you a kind of intoxicated feeling, which makes the end all the more sobering. If you like movies about teamwork you'll love the curious escapism of The Great Escape.
