Review of The Great Dictator (1940) by Sunnie D — 18 Jul 2008
This is more then just a movie its a symbol against people who put fear into the hearts of others. its a stand against all that is wrong with the world. chaplin is a true artist and one of the bravest people who ever lived.
a genius. The score to this movie makes the heart melt and the slaptick is brilliantly designed . the sybolism of the bird in the cage was clever. the movie to me overall had really only 2 great scenes that really hit me and I wish the movie had kept this tone throughout but chaplin was a comedian and he did what he had to, to make us laugh.
the scenes I refer to are : when chaplin plays with the globe and the other is ofcourse his last speech which is one of the greatest monologues I have ever heard and one of the greatest things I have ever seen captured on film.
it is true and heartfelt. there will never be another chaplin but I hope that in time we will all be as brave as he was to never fear a man with all the power in the world. that is what this movie showed me and I hope that it will show that to generations to come.
