Review of The Great Dictator (1940) by Stacey B — 25 Aug 2008
This movie is pure genius; one of the first great parodies. The fact that the parody is of Hitler and that Charlie Chaplin actually pulls it off and makes it not only hilarious but meaningful is just brilliant.
No joke is over-shot and it's got a really honest, poignant ending. Just hearing Chaplin speak mock-German makes me laugh hysterically, and the part with Hitler and his globe dance is one of the greatest things I've ever seen.
