Review of The Great Dictator (1940) by William K — 21 Mar 2010
Interesting movie. The comedy was superb, but this came from Charles Chaplin. The story was a little odd to me. Two people one a Jew and simple minded, the other was Hitler and he's just crazy. They look alike and get switched at the end.
I must admit the ending speech was breathtakingly beautiful (then and now). Parts of the movie were perfect and parts I felt were just outrageous and dumb. Mainly to show the talents of Chaplin. I feel that for its day it is a classic, but for a new generation it is just an interesting movie.
