Review of The Great Dictator (1940) by James B — 13 Jun 2010
A classic comedy from Chaplin poking fun at the Nazi regime and Adolf Hitler. The film was released during the second world war and must have been recieved greatly by those opposing the nazi's at the time and offering some sort of moral boost.
Some great comedy from Chaplin both slapstick and verbally gives this film a great warm and non offensive outlook. A rousing speech at the end also gives the film some sort of tradgic element where sadly most leaders can't be like this.
It's a shame that speech wasn't watched by Hitler. A film that should be watched by anyone interested in Chaplin's comedy.
