Review of The Great Dictator (1940) by Elisa K — 23 Dec 2010
It's all a bit strange to hear Chaplin speak but by the end you wonder how you ever did w/out it. W/ The Great Dictator you get the best of his comedy & pathos mixed w/ good dialogue plus silent wonder that only Chaplin can deliver.
I often forget how good Chaplin was since I probably haven't watched one of movies for about 16 years. There used to be a great pizza joint in my town called Mothers that used to plays little silent movies throughout the night.
That's how I first was introduced to Chaplin when I was like 7. This is by far the best of his Ive seen. Classic comedy & way ahead of its time coming out in 1940.
