Review of The Great Dictator (1940) by Michael M — 14 Mar 2011
I dunno know. I've been wildly unprepared for Charlie Chaplin's voice. The man sounds like he should be playing Prospero. He's got that great Royal Shakespeare company voice. I mean, compare him to someone like Karl Marx, who's communist manifesto was Hi-Larious.
But we're all socialists now anyway cause we want to bring tax levels back to the 90's BUT I AIN'T VOTE NO GODDAMNED KENYAN INTO OFFICE but I digress. This movie is sort of propaganda, in a way.
It did insight people to actively not like Hitler, well not Disney or Lindbergh but go figure. People are weird. But to make fun of a mass murder when he's actually murdering people. Where's my Saturday Night Live sketch about .
.. right... well... why can't we be funny AND make a social point? Is that too hard for people to do now? WHY is Fred Armisen popular? We should have a comedy concentration camp for all the undesirable comedians.
HELL Why stop there? There are loads of people I don't like, for instance, WHOEVER is reading this. STAY WHERE YOU ARE. SOME PEOPLE ARE COMING. IT'LL BE A NICE PLACE. DON'T YOU WORRY IT'S ONLY A SHOWER.
IT'S A HOLIDAY IN CAMBODIA, etc etc. Did Chaplin get to bone all of the women on the set of this? I hope so. I DID. THERE. NOW YOU'VE BEEN CAPTURED. ALL HAIL MAGNES. CHEESE UND CRACKERS.
