Review of The Great Dictator (1940) by Robert G — 19 Oct 2014
First of all, let me clear one thing up. Just because the movie stars, is produced by, is written by and is directed by the great Charles Chaplin does not make it a silent film. Not that there is anything wrong with a silent film, I mean I like them but this just isn't one.
This, believe it or not, is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. This came as a huge surprise to me, I mean you just an older comedy movie that was made long ago to be so funny. Because when you think about it, comedy changes over time.
Bu5 what gives this film such staying power is how the genius of Chaplin pokes at the stupidity of Hitler.
