Review of The Great Dictator (1940) by Hari A — 02 Nov 2014
Controversial and a with a completely conflicting ending to what the film was portraying, The Great Dictator is Charlie Chaplin's first talkie and certainly one of his best movies, talkies or silent. The message that is transmitted across is so visceral that once your finish, you linger in your couch for a good ten minutes absorbing the final words by Charlie Chaplin, that has been considered one of the greatest moments in film history and rightly so. "Don't give yourselves to these unnatural men - machine men with machine minds and machine hearts! You are not machines, you are not cattle, you are men! You have the love of humanity in your hearts! ".
A slapstick comedy on Hitler, released when Hitler was actually ruling, is as brave as brave can be best defined. A great story and a wonderful message.
