Review of The Great Debaters (2007) by Byron B — 20 Nov 2008
OK movie, not awesome. I was more impressed by Nate Parker than Denzel Whitaker (no relation to Forest). Nate Parker reminded me of Denzel Washington in Glory in a way. It was a good story, but at times the actions and dialog of the characters seemed to come out of nowhere.
The students' motivations were too roughly developed to allow their actions to make sense throughout the whole movie. I think this falls on the shoulders of the screenplay writers and Denzel Washington who is perhaps not the best director yet.
