Review of The Great Debaters (2007) by Trisa J — 24 Nov 2008
An uplifting tale about a group of kids who attend a black college in texas, whose determined intellectualism faces extreme odds. Yes you've probably seen this film, or heard this story a thousand times, however it is not as corny as it could have been.
Denzel Washington is always great playing intense eccentric characters, and all the young actors really deserve credit for their emotional performances. There are some strange directing choses, and the end felt rushed.
....but the "debates" and the lead up to big challenge at Harvard is fascinating.
