Review of The Great Debaters (2007) by Charles H — 22 Mar 2009
A truly inspiring film based on a true story. A college professor, played by Denzel Washington (who also directed this film), inspires a group of students to form the school's first debate team, and eventually went on to challenge Harvard in the national championship.
The film portrays the racism that is rife at that time, which is year 1935. And it shows how the debaters went on a winning spree, despite struggling along the way with personal problems, and finally able to challenge the 'whites' in Harvard.
If you are looking for an inspiring film based on a true story, look no further than this.
