Review of The Great Debaters (2007) by Paul D — 15 Jul 2012
The Great Debaters is a solid film, with experienced and seasoned actors, who strive together an depicted theramatic true events of devestating moments in black history. Oprah who productioned and financed the film. Made it clear from the get-go to spread awareness of Racism and provide a hopeful true story.
Any film Starring both Denzel Washington and Forest Whitaker has my vote of confidence.
Historical background:
The film depicts the Wiley Debate team beating Harvard College in the 1930s. This meeting actually never occurred. The debate most likely similar to the one depicted by the movie was the match up between Wiley and the University of Southern California, who at the time were the reigning debating champions.
