Review of The Great Buck Howard (2008) by P3Rkin J0Y T — 24 Mar 2009

I'm really puzzled by the fairly warm response to this movie. I saw it last night and left wishing I had my money back. Twenty minutes into it I began to wonder what the point was, An hour into it I seriously began to consider leaving, I've only ever walked out of one movie in my life, Nicholas Cage's "Windtalkers" so I think I have a fairly high tolerance for dreck. What kept me in my seat was simply that I came with friends and thought it would be a pain to find them after the movie. You know a movie is bad when shortly into it you begin searching for reading material wherever you can find it.

The main offense here is the incredibly boring story-line which seems to become more pointless progressively, I was also a bit surprised at the claim that this movie was based on a real human being "The Amazing Kreskin" that having so thoroughly roasted the main character played by John Malkovich the producers then turn and indicate to the audience that this movie should somehow be considered a tribute to his real-life counterpart.

I've read a few other reviews that praise the fact that this movie doesn't overtly insult one's intelligence. I suppose I agree, this movie could have been much worse in different hands but I'm not sure that's much reason to see it since the opposite must be true as well. If anything maybe the directing is what prevented this movie from being really bad, fixing it firmly in the ranks of the solidly average and the thoroughly mediocre. So this movie manages to only waste your time, rather than waste your time and insult you. Don't see this, if you feel like you must see it find someone who has, give them your 8 bucks and have them describe it to you, it will be less boring and go someway toward reimbursing them for the trouble of seeing this movie. :rotten:
