Review of The Great Buck Howard (2008) by William M — 04 May 2010
This was actually a good movie. And as for John Malkovich, the character he played was just great. As it was kind of based upon the life of The Amazing Kreskin, Buck Howard here was an eccentric performer in a way because of all of his mannerisms and quirks, like how he shook hands for one thing. But throughout the movie, the ability shown was just amazing, even though there were people who doubted him just because they didn't know how he did it or believed that he could do it.
As he states in the movie, Buck Howard was on the Johnny Carson Show 61 times, but there was a time when he wasn't called. His behaviour was the cause of people not liking him so much and with him losing favour with those people. But when he was doing a show, he was a true entertainer. Only after having an episode and being hospitalized does he realize his true calling in life...that he's not meant for the big time anymore and he can get more satisfaction doing the smaller shows around the country as he has been doing.
Again, this is a rather interesting movie and a good one to watch I'd think. Truly for the Malkovich fans out there.
