Review of The Great Beauty (2013) by Mark H — 16 Feb 2014
This film defines the word pretentious - "attempting to impress by affecting greater importance, talent, culture, etc., than is actually possessed." Although beautifully shot, this Fellini wannabe is empty and soulless without a story or anyone to care about.
Fellini, even in his weakest films, always had a story and characters that fascinated. With his great films like "La Strada," "Nights of Cabiria," "La Dolce Vita," "8 1/2," "Satyricon" and "Amarcord," you are riveted by the images and come away learning valuable lessons about life.
"The Great Beauty" just reaffirms that bored and shallow people don't hold much interest or value in watching.
