Review of The Great Beauty (2013) by Laurie T — 30 Mar 2014
A melancholy variation on Fellini, with catchy music, beautiful views of Rome, a sadly smiling hero, and many beautiful men and women in perfectly tailored clothes. An ancient saint who lives only on roots, an aging man who sips champagne and seduces beautiful women, a sort of Italian Gatsby.
Is death the great beauty, or the hideousness of extreme deprivation?
