Review of The Great Beauty (2013) by Pijgogo — 17 Jul 2020
A beautiful reverie. A mature and contemplative adventure. A deliberately dizzying start with a birthday party plants many themes without us realizing until things start slowing down, literally, via slow motion scenes.
This has a place in Italian firm history with La Dolce Vita. Different messages though, not least re: modern borghesia and a culture of nothing. The ending scenes are ethereal. I had to take a walk after watching this.
Will watch again.
