Tom Joad (played by the always amazing Henry Fonda) is back from a 4 year prison term, after getting paroled!. He finds his home is empty and see's his family heading westward, as the depression has hit them hard, and are going to California for work.

Jane Darwell, plays the tragic character of Ma Joad, and won an oscar for her role, and so greatly deserves it, she portrayed the character with so much passion, that is sorely lacking in movies today!! Tom Joad himself finds it hard as well, to fit in again with his family, as well as society!
