Review of The Grapes of Wrath (1940) by Mark S — 16 Sep 2007
Wow. This has to be one of the greatest American films ever made. From the brilliant acting, to the ideal cinematography, to the succinct direction, and to the story's addressing of an important social issue, everything is perfectly realised.
It captures entirely the nation's fear of losing everything they had, the injustice that existed at that time, and the steely determination the people had to set things right in what was one of America's most troubled times.
Both the novel and the film are brilliant documents of the era. More often than not, film adaptations of such masterpieces fail to live up to expectations. The Grapes Of Wrath is a rare exception.
