Review of The Grapes of Wrath (1940) by James A — 13 Nov 2007
Working from the great novel by Steinbeck, truly getting a coup from hiring legendary cinematographer Gregg Toland and bravely choosing stick to the leftist conclusions of the narrative, all of the elements came together here for John Ford to make a stunning and moving picture of one family's struggle during the depression.
All of the cast put in their best work. The script is tight as a drum and the conclusion is still one of the most stirring ever committed to celluloid. I still cry at the final speech.
